01 Definition
Over/Under, also called totals, is a type of bet where you predict whether the combined number of goals scored by both teams will be above or below a line set by the bookmaker. The most common lines are 1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 goals. Over 2.5 means you need 3 or more goals in the match to win.
02 Example
Arsenal vs Chelsea has a total line of 2.5 goals. Betting "Over 2.5" wins if the final combined score is 3 or more (e.g., 2-1, 3-0, 2-2). Betting "Under 2.5" wins if it's 2 or fewer (e.g., 1-0, 0-0, 1-1).
03 Why It Matters
Totals markets are the backbone of in-play betting because they're directly influenced by game flow — momentum, fatigue, tactical changes, and urgency. Unlike match results, totals have a natural upward drift as the game progresses.
04 How thetipster.xyz Uses This
Our entire algorithm is built around detecting +EV over opportunities in live football. Specifically, we focus on situations where our model calculates that the probability of "one more goal" is significantly higher than what the current odds imply.
